plays that make you remember
WHY you got yourself into this world to begin with. it’s extremely important, being reminded. horribly important.
i read neat by charlayne woodard the other day at work. we’re putting it up in a couple of weeks. it’s a play-with-one-actor (words of the playwright, so i shall respect them) about race in the south and the north. problems exist everywhere—not just below the mason-dixon.
here in my new home, the city renamed the main street that runs through downtown. it also happens to be where the theatre sits. from state street it is now martin luther king jr street.
this change, though honoring a man deserving of honor, was intended to improve race relations in the city.
when did the renaming of a street last make any visible changes? i hope our show does. it’s a great opportunity for a great little theatre to say something out loud.

my sister’s favorite cake.
Tonight, I tried to re-create this cake I made back in May. It tasted almost the same, but it wasn’t as good-looking. Tonight’s toppled over a bit…so here’s the pretty one. Nia said she’s never had a better dessert. That made me happy.

Coconut cake, vanilla custard filling, strawberries, bananas, cream cheese frosting dollops.

sandwiches.

They look just lettuce-y, but there’s lots of yummy turkey and ham. Ovens make such a difference…
